So spring really has arrived and we are seeing a most promising start to 2011 in terms of original, authentic reggae music.
Protoje’s debut album ‘7 Year Itch’ is most impressive and well worthy of investigation as is the new album from Etana ‘ Free Expressions’ and the debut album from British songstress Adele Harley, ‘Free Come Into My Life’
Little Roy, the original 12 Tribes vocalist and composer of two mighty roots anthems ‘Tribal War’ and ‘Prophecy’ has release an excellent new album ‘Heat’. We eagerly await the debut set from the new Jamaican singer/songwriter/activist Janine ‘Jah9’ Cunningham with her unique Jazz On Dub vocal styling; watch out for ‘Mr. Right’ produced by Rory (Stone Love).
Curtis Lynch Junior, who has done so much to stir up the British Reggae movement, has created a superb new rhythm called ‘Gorilla’..do check out Tarrus Riley’s cut ‘Warriors’ and Macka B’s cut ‘Our Music’
Don Corleon’s ‘Message’ rhythm is doing really well with all the cuts getting a good response in the dancehalls especially the cuts from Kymani Marley, Sophia Squire, Professor, Protégé, and Pressure.
Equally impressive is the new rhythm from Baby G, ‘The Captain’ with cuts from Wayne Marshall, Tarrus Riley, Jah Cure and Pressure.
Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Smiley Culture, one of the original pioneers of British reggae dee jay styling, who died during a police raid on his home. Naturally we all await the outcome of a full and proper investigation into his tragic death.
