Check out this video from an amazing Maida Vale live session on Sunday’s BBC 1Xtra show with the legendary Freddie McGregor!
So the heat is on, quite literally, with all these amazing summer Festivals and scorching heat. Glastonbury was brilliant with our live broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra going down a storm. We were also blown away by the mixing skills and bionic energy of DJ Skrillex, who treated us to a surprise performance and mashed up our Gully stage, despite the fact that he was competing with the Rolling Stones.
Thanks to all the nutty ravers who have come along to party and break out this summer, starting with Ram Jam at Parklife, Manchester in early June right down through the summer… Beachbreak in Cornwall, Lovebox in London, Sheffield Tramlines, Lounge On The Farm in Kent, Secret Garden in Cambridge, the evergreen Womad in Wiltshire and and Camp Bestival down in Dorset.
Big love goes out to all the people of the Salento region, in south Italy, who came to my annual beach promenade party in Cassalabate on the Adriatic coast… It was a fantastic night, and big up Rankin Lele, Papa Louis and the members of Sud Sound System for mashing up the place.
Still to come, we have the now legendary Bestival on the Isle Of Wight, Outlook in Croatia and the only reggae and dub festival in the UK, which is One Love in Essex. I am also looking forward to my first time up at the Beacons Festival in North Yorkshire plus Leeds and Reading Festivals.
I will also be at Shambala Festival in Northamptonshire on the Sunday night of that Bank Holiday weekend 23-24-25 August. Then, all roads lead to Notting Hill Carnival for the appearance of Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley and his brothers Stephen and Julian and guests at the Red Bull Music Academy Sound System on Monday 26th August.
Give me some signal if you are at any of the above…
Enjoy the sunshine and the festival raving.
Delighted to announce this bumper Ram Jam line-up with the Marley’s hitting Carnival for the first time!

I must begin by thanking the thousands of Park Life festival ravers who came along to my Ram Jam stage in the sunshine up in Manchester. It was such an amazing day and night and it was such a joy to see and feel all the love and good vibes that flowed throughout the park, also thank you to all the artists who performed for us.
So summer really has arrived and Glastonbury beckons, the oldest and greatest rock music festival in the world. The BBC will be broadcasting from all the main stages on their various frequencies to their loyal listeners on 6 Music, 1 Xtra, Radio 2 and of course BBC Radio 1.
I remember what radio was like before the BBC created Radio 1 in 1967, when we all listened to John Peel, Emperor Rosko, Kenny Everett, Tommy Vance, Tony Blackburn and all the other pirate dee jays playing non stop back to back pop music and ska and rocksteady from Radio Caroline and Radio London, from ships outside territorial waters.
Little did I know then that one day I would be broadcasting from Radio 1, and that day has almost arrived. Yes, I am proud to say that my first ever show on BBC Radio 1 will be from the Gully Stage at Glastonbury on Saturday 29th of June at 11pm through to midnight.
Tune in if you can. I shall be preforming at quite a few festivals so do check the gig listings and give me some signal if you are raving in the sun.
