KISS FM announcement

November 22nd, 2012 52 Comments »

I write this to inform you that today I have resigned from my position as a broadcaster on Kiss FM. I’ve been with station for 22 years, shared some wonderful times with many fantastic artists and members of staff and its with great sadness that I’ve come to this decision. Due to their continued marginalisation of reggae music into the twilight zone of radio scheduling, it has left me no option but to make a stand for my passion and the music I love so dearly.

As Bob Marley famously said “the stone that the builder refused will be the head corner stone.” Reggae was originally played on the streets, not on radio, and Kiss’ refusal to schedule the only reggae show on their network to a socially accessible time has resulted in this decision. Reggae is worthy of more respect and so are the fans and lovers of this music.

My weekly radio show on Kiss FM has been put back one hour so it now starts at 12midnight thru till 1am. But you can always “listen again” via the Kiss Kube on the Kiss website www.kissfmuk.com.

Musically some hot shots to look out for include ‘Ganja Tea’ by Keida Ranking, she is a new artist from Jamaica and on the same rhythm listen out for ‘Karma’ by Nadine Sutherland both are produced by Rory Stonelove and are on i-tunes.

Protoje has a wicked new song called ‘Kingston Be Wise’ written during the ‘civil war’ that struck Tivoli Gardens when security forces tried to arrest Dudus.

Hope to see you at one of my gigs so please have a look at the DATES section of this site.

OCTOBER IN RODIGAN’S WORLD

The big concert fro this month is Beres Hammond, Tarrus Riley, Romain Virgo and Alborosie at Wembley Arena on sunday 14th October; it promises to be an awesome evening of real reggae vibes.

There’s some good new music around if you have time to seek and find tracks from Collie Buddz, ‘Won’t Be Long’, Morgan Heritage ‘Stand Up’ from their ep ‘The Return, newcomer Cleo Soul with ‘Crack The Code’ re-mixed by Tony Kelly and Macka B’s excellent ‘Reggae LIves On’ in which he remembers all the great stars who have passed and gone.

Really looking forward to returning to Corsica Studios in London and The WHP in Manchester this month and also my annual roots rock revival session in Birmingham with Father Hovis.

Well there goes the summer and the Olympics…big up to Team GB and the Jamaican sprinters ! The weather may not have been great but the festivals were, especially Ram Jam at Bestival, Notting Hill Carnival at the Red Bull Music Academy Major Lazer Party and the Digital Sound Boy Stage. Puma Yard threw some great parties down on Brick Lane and the jam at The Vibe Bar for the Brick Lane Festival marked the end of the summer outdoor ravings.
